In the United States, Xbox One sold 258,000
units, 90% of the total PlayStation 4 sales in February, giving Sony’s
PS4 another month as the hardware sales leader in 2014. Microsoft's
higher price point on Xbox One, however, gives it the hardware lead in
terms of dollars earned.
According to the NPD Group, the total hardware sales for the month were $347 million, with software earning $318 million.
Both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are on an
enormous sales spike last month, with PS4 and Xbox One software sales up
80% compared to PS3 and Xbox 360’s first four months. NPD Group’s Liam
Callahan stated that the majority of consoles “experienced
double-to-triple digit increases compared to January 2014.”
The best-selling games between February 2 and March 1 are, in order:
- Call Of Duty: Ghosts (360, PS3, XBO, PS4, NWU, PC)**
- The LEGO Movie Videogame (360, PS3, 3DS, NWU, XBO, PS4, PSV)
- NBA 2K14 (360, PS4, PS3, XBO, PC)**
- Thief (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3)
- Grand Theft Auto V (360, PS3)**
- Battlefield 4 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3, PC)
- Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (360, PS4, PS3, XBO, NWU, PC)**
- Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, 360)
- Minecraft (360)
- Bravely Default (3DS)
Xbox One software sales exceeded 772,000 sales, with 2.46 million Xbox 360 games sold in February. According to Microsoft, this gives Xbox a 48% hold on the software market.
Bravely Default saw great success on
Nintendo 3DS last month, bringing in 200,000 sales in just three weeks.
Wii U also saw software success with Donkey Kong Country: Tropical
Freeze, which sold more than 130,000 units across digital and retail.
This drove Wii U sales up nearly 25% compared to January. Pokemon X and
Pokemon Y also sold 130,000, bringing their lifetime US sales to 3.4
million.
