PopCap, the Seattle-based developer behind Plants vs. Zombies and
Peggle 2, has suffered layoffs. An unknown number of employees have been
let go, according to Polygon, and it's uncertain which teams were affected. IGN has contacted PopCap for additional information.
"The changes we made today at PopCap were painful and we're sorry to
lose some of our friends and colleagues," PopCap general manager John
Vechey told Polygon, "But it was also necessary in order to stay on
course with our future plans for mobile games, live services and new IP.
PopCap is a studio that made its name building great games that the
world can fall in love with, and that's what we'll continue to do."
PopCap declined to specify how many employees were affected, and stated
it has "no changes to announce with regard to PopCap titles."
The Xbox 360 version of Peggle 2 should remain on track for its May release date
